There are thousands of chili recipes out there, many with new twists on chili. This recipe boasts nothing trendy or out of the box. Rather, it is the only chili recipe us picky children would eat! And so it became one of my mom’s favorite recipes. It is a taste of our childhood and when we make it, it feels like we are 7 years old eating it on a cold Halloween night as we anticipate trick-or-treating. And that’s why we LOVE it!!
Mom’s Favorite Chili
Ingredients:
1 lb. ground beef
1 onion, diced
(5) 14.5 oz cans petite diced tomatoes
(1) 14.5 oz can crushed tomatoes
(2) 15 oz cans dark kidney beans
(1) can pinto beans
(1) can white beans
(1) can chili beans
(1) can black beans
1/2 cup ketchup
2 packets McCormick Chili mix (may use HOT)
Directions:
In a large pot, cook the ground beef and the onion. Spoon off fat. Continue to cook until ground beef is browned thoroughly.
Add all the tomatoes, beans, ketchup, and seasoning packets. (Use the beans and their juices except for the black beans. Drain the black beans first.)
Simmer on low for 1 to 2 hours, or put in a crock-pot on low until ready to serve.
You may add a sprinkle of Cayenne pepper if you prefer an extra kick.
Have fun with the toppings! Goldfish crackers, Frito’s or corn chips, Cheez-Its, soda crackers, green onions, jalapenos, sour cream, and cheese of course!
Pair it with homemade corn bread or our Famous French Bread.
