We love popcorn balls! One bite into these and we are 5 years old again!! Our mom would make them for all the holidays. For Halloween she would make orange and Christmas red and green. I remember taking them to school and giving one to each of the kids in my class! Times have sure changed but this recipe is still the same. Even if you didn’t grow up loving this sweet treat you can start a tradition now with your kids!
Popcorn Balls
Ingredients
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup butter
3/4 cup corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
food coloring
2/3 cup un-popped popcorn
Directions
With a hot air popper, pop 2 batches of popcorn, 1/3 cup per batch. Transfer popcorn to a large bowl, sifting the un-popped kernels out as you transfer the popcorn.
In a large pot, bring sugar, butter, and corn syrup to a boil. Let simmer (bubbling) for 5 minutes while stirring. Turn off heat and add vanilla and desired food coloring.
Pour the mixture over the popcorn and stir to coat evenly.
While warm, form popcorn into balls and place on waxed paper. Let cool and then wrap in wax paper. If you wrap them while they are warm they stick to the paper.
